Sneaker Freaker: The Footscaper

Posted on August 24, 2007 Under Fashion

An aficionado I’m not, but for all you sneakerheads out there, this article is well worth a read. The shoe hunters over at Sneaker Freaker caught up with ’90’s Nike designer extraordinaire, Tory Orzeck, and picked his brain about some of Nike’s more innovative designs. Two of Orzeck’s designs, the Footscape and the Moc, are still in production and have proven extremely popular, even to today’s collectors.

Orzeck spills the real deal on everything from his boss at Nike to how they came up with their innovative shoe designs, taking inspiration from anything they could get their hands on: rock climbers, surf gurus, and even Ugg boots. After leaving Nike in ’95, Tory moved on to create FUSE, a design firm that works for everyone from Herman Miller to Keen sandals — and are also responsible for the Furilla.
