The Encyclopedia Project
An all-fiction encyclopedia!?!? The Encyclopedia Project is the brainchild of Brown University MFA graduates Miranda Mellis, Kate Schatz and Tisa Bryant. It’s a five volume hardcover book project that adopts the aesthetic and design of a traditional encyclopedia, but “subverts the canonical structure and method.” The Encyclopedia Project is focused on increasing the visibility of the avant-garde and experimental arts, and reflects the founders’ frustration with how traditional literary journals segregate the arts and artists. Renowned educational institutions such as Brown and Temple Universities have already started to utilize the encyclopedia as a unique teaching tool in their literature and creative writing classes. The first volume (A-E) is available for purchase online, where you can also subscribe to future volumes. While not exactly cheap, they’re sure a bargain compared to conventional encyclopedias.
