Miya Ando Stanoff

We don’t think postage stamped sized images of Miya Ando Stanoff do her work any justice– but until we get the 3D version of our site up and running in Second Life, they’re going to have to do. A graduate of UC Berkeley, Miya’s minimalist metalwork combines steal and pigments she says she is “ultimately interested in the study of subtraction to the point of purity, simplicity and refinement. We dig her work, and love minimalism work with that kind of story– and Miya has a great one. Half Japanese and half-Russian, she split her time between two very different cultures– living in her family’s Buddhist temple in Japan, and in Northern California. Miya also happens to be the descendant of a Bizen sword maker– and that’s bad ass. You can check out her show going on right now at Art Gotham in NYC through December 9th. The closing reception is that day, from 4-6pm.
