Your Scene Sucks: Silly Silly Scenesters

Posted on March 31, 2007 Under Life

From Rob Dobi, mastermind behind Your Scene Sucks: someone recently wrote me and complained that my old “how to dress emo” site was incorrect because “that is how normal people dress.” for the most part, they are right. the term “emo” has become a thing of the past, now replaced by its the new term, “scene.” gone are the days of thick-rimmed glasses, sweaters, and jeans that actually fit. everything is completely androgynous in the myspace age; boys are playing dress up with mommy’s makeup; girls are attempting to look more and more like glam rock monsters. Rob, you couldn’t be more correct– the other week, Josh and I got an invitation to a party in Boulder– the invitation said that it was going to be a “hipster party.” What is a “hipster party” exactly? Those “hipsters” don’t look any different than every other high school student to me. Rob has been telling it how it is since he launched his site ‘How To Dress Emo‘ in 2001– now he’s moved forward with his societal thesis to launch ‘Your Scene Sucks’ and his FullBleed clothing line (which, by the way, has just added 10 great new t-shirt designs to its inventory). Rob’s site(s) are definitely honest (brutally so), and will make you laugh– even if your the brunt of the joke, which you likely are.
